Commissioned Wedding Comic

a wedding comic I did for a commission.

As a kickstarter reward for the aforementioned “Mystery” zine. I offered a custom one-page comic. The person I made it for asked me to avoid posting it until his fiance saw it. So I did. Now that the cat is out of the bag for her I can share it with you. They both are fans of board games (hence the apples-to-apples header), and he is a self-admitted nerd. I didn’t have to do much in the way of scripting the thing because he gave me a lot to work with. A few of these are in-jokes, but I thought it had broad enough appeal to share with everyone.

This was a lot of fun to do and it was a pleasure making something special like this for someone else (even though I don’t know the happy couple). If you have an idea for a mini comic of some sort and you want to discuss it with me, please let me know. These kinds of projects are fun to work on while I’m spending a bunch of time working on my magnum sci-fi opus. Whoops.. did I just say that? I guess the cat is out of both bags now.

And…here’s the thrilling conclusion! Word is that I’ll get a few of these suckers. If you are interested in purchasing one, stay tuned to the site and I’ll have info on how to buy one when it’s ready.

There’s another comics group here in Chicago called “Let’s Make Comics”. They have meetups on days that I unfortunately cannot attend. However, they were kind enough to let me enter a comic into their most recent “Zine” (a zine is sort of like a lo-fi DIY comic, they’re pretty popular these days). The them is “mystery”. So I put together a two page story with my typical sense of humor. This is the first page. I’ll post the second next week.

Page two of “Happy Hour”

This is the second and final page from my entry for Northside Comics anthology Identity. You can see the first page here. We are launching a kickstarter this Friday. If you’re in the Chicago area you can join us for our launch party at 7pm at Geek Bar Beta. If you aren’t in the area or can’t make the party you can still contribute. I will be posting a link to the kickstarter here as well as on the Northside Comic Artists homepage, Twitter account, and Facebook page. Please do support the comic, in addition to my comic there will be stories from 14 other artists. Definitely worth it if you like independent comics.

Got the suggestion from my friend Dean over drinks one night “‘Sir Racha’, there you go, that’s a comic!” You’d be surprised how many “That’s a comic” conversations I have these days (always welcome, of course). Rarely do they bear such fun and noble fruit. I liked this one so much I even let Dean add the color. It was his first attempt at digital coloring and I think he did quite a nice job.
